Zokusho: Shadowbox–Page 23
In case it wasn’t super clear, Heiwu’s rings stack bonuses to strength or resistance, depending on which hand she has them on. So right now she’s operating on a 3x strength bonus and a 2x resistance bonus. Just felt like laying it out, I think Heiwu’s equipment is really cool. When I first came up with it, I thought there were going to be 5 distinct rings that all did different things on each finger and combined in different ways, but that quickly became overwhelming. I may revisit the idea if she comes back, though.
It is a pretty cool idea! Even (especially?) if the main effect is AC+/Attack Bonus+, but each ring also correlates to the five elements of Evocation and maybe also to Blunt, Piercing, Slashing, (um…Force, Poison?), so she’s dealing three types of bonus damage right now but only has bonus Resistance (aside from the general AC boost) against Slashing and Poison.
Then again I haven’t actually read any D&D rulebooks, so that might not even make sense from a mechanical standpoint.
Yeah, my original idea kind of went in that direction, but it required too much explanation to get to the finer details. I’m not a good enough writer to gracefully do exposition for all those specific points, so I simplified it to the current offense/defense idea.
If Heiwu were more the type to exposit her powers and weaknesses midfight, or Carmen were the scholarly type to make a proper Lore check on those rings, we’d know. “Each ring resonates with a different element, or different sort of attack. Splitting the rings like this is only something she’d do if she were sure she knew what I was packing.”
