Zokusho: Pawn Kings–Page 6
So Dave got paid, and Carl got a shield that he can sell. Everybody’s happy.
We’ve got one more page left in this little side story, and since I’m really itching to get to the next issue, I’ll post that up tomorrow, so swing by and check it out!
You know, I would like to see them show how much the item re-sells for on these shows. I always wonder just how much John Q. Public is getting reamed for on these pawn sales.

The thing I would say about that in many cases, the customers on Pawn Stars (haven’t watched any of the imitators, so I can’t really refer to them) are bringing in stuff that requires a fair amount of restoration, or would have to find someone who wants the specific geegaw that they’re trying to sell without any knowledge of the collector’s market. So to a certain extent, they’re “paying” for the luxury of someone willing to be a middleman for stuff that won’t necessarily sell quickly or needs work before a collector would be willing to buy it. Obviously this doesn’t apply in ALL cases, but it comes up often enough that it’s worth considering.
I agree that the “Pawn Stars” guys seem to be more or less on the up-and-up. They tend to bring in experts to look at and evaluate many of the pieces that find there way into their store. Most of the others come off a bit more dodgy and fly-by-night, though IMO.

I don’t watch the show, but I too am wondering how good of a deal he got…

The way I see it, Carl’s gonna put it up for sale for about 2,500 points. If nobody buys it for long enough, he’ll mark it down, but odds are he won’t take less than 2,000. So he’ll make money, but it’s not like he’s just completely screwing Dave over.
I might not know anything about actually running a pawn shop, though.
Yeah Dave needs more ranks in Barter. He could have gotten at least 2000 for that. 😉

He clearly put all of his points in STR, not CHA.
